How AI Allows Complex Phenomena to Harmonize with Creative Arts

김병수 박사 (NVIDIA)

Abstract: AI has become pervasive in almost every aspect of applications in lifestyle such as chatbot, personalized learning, autonomous vehicles, health care, and so on. One of the most interesting applications is content creation, and now AI can help even laymen facilitate complicated physical phenomena for their private content production. In this talk, I would like to talk about our recent efforts on computational artworks, including Fluid Stylization utilized for the main character of "Elemental", the latest Disney and Pixar animation.

Bio: Byungsoo Kim is a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Generative AI technology at NVIDIA. He obtained PhD from the Computer Graphics Lab at ETH Zurich and Disney Research, under the supervision of Prof. Markus Gross. Before that, he worked as a Graphics Research Engineer at FXGear in Korea and co-founded the ConTech startup TENELEVEN, following his BSc in Computer Science from KAIST. His research interests lie at the intersection of machine learning and physics-based simulations in computer graphics. His work on fluid stylization has been nominated for a Visual Effects Society Award, and he is a recipient of the Frontiers of Science Award at the 2024 International Congress of Basic Science.
