Dr. Myoung-Sun Song is an associate professor in the Division of Communication & Media at Ewha Womans University. She received her BA in English Language and Literature and her MA in Professional Writing at Ewha, and her PhD in Communication at University of Southern California’s Annenberg School. Professor Song’s research focuses on the politics of identity and representation in South Korean media and popular culture. She is the author of Hanguk Hip Hop: Global Rap in South Korea (2019), the first scholarly book-length study on the subject of Korean hip hop. Before joining Ewha, she taught at Sogang University’s Department of American Culture and at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. At UIUC, Dr. Song was a tenured associate professor and was named 2024-2025 Helen Corley Petit Scholar for excellence in research and teaching.
