Ewha Holds 2025 Spring Commencement
Ewha Holds 2025 Spring Commencement Ewha Womans University held the 2025 Spring Commencement Ceremony at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 23, conferring degrees on a total of 3,786 graduates, including 2,360 bachelor’s degrees, 1,255 master’s degrees, and 171 doctorates. President Hyang-Sook Lee, in her commencement address, emphasized the history of Ewha, which began as Korea’s first modern educational institution for women and has grown into a leading intellectual community with many pioneering and stellar achievements. The president also highlighted—on the occasion of the university’s 140th anniversary—the “Ewha spirit” that continues to challenge conventions, pursue innovation, and design a new future, stating that “the legacy of being ‘the first,’ engraved in Ewha’s history, is not merely a record of achievement but a unique legacy built together by the Ewha community—one that will serve as an unwavering standard and guide as you find your place in society.” This year’s graduates included 44 early graduates, 504 summa cum laude graduates, and 546 magna cum laude graduates, reflecting the outstanding academic achievements of the graduating class. Fourteen top students were selected to be honored from each college, and three—from the College of Social Sciences, the College of Natural Sciences, and the College of Emerging Industry Convergence—achieved a perfect GPA of 4.3 out of 4.3, demonstrating exceptional talent and consistent dedication. The ceremony was also meaningful in its inclusiveness, as four students with disabilities and seven students from North Korea received bachelor’s degrees. The university’s global achievements were also evident, with 235 international graduates, including 76 receiving bachelor’s degrees, 143 master’s degrees, and 16 doctorates. Students from the Ewha Global Partnership Program (EGPP)—a scholarship program that provides full tuition and living expenses to outstanding women from developing countries—were also represented at this ceremony, with two receiving bachelor’s degrees, four master’s degrees, and two doctorates. EGPP is a flagship global program for nurturing female leaders that has been funding the education of talented women from developing countries since 2006. The university is launching the careers of graduates with strong academic capabilities and professional expertise through this commencement ceremony, thereby realizing its vision of nurturing women leaders who will drive change around the world.
