Overview
For more than 70 years, since its foundation in 1945, Ewha has produced qualified and accomplished female medical doctors and researchers under the educational values of love, devotion and professionalism. In 2007, Ewha Womans University College of Medicine changed to the Graduate School of Medicine and admitted the first students under the new academic system. This was changed to the College of Medicine in 2015. The college consists of two schools, the premedical school and the medical school. There are 32 departments, including 10 Basic Medical Science departments and 22 Clinical Medicine departments.
Ewha Womans University College of Medicine provides professional training to generate future female leaders in the field of medicine. In the field of professional medical education, we are on par with global standards as we aim to achieve international prominence in our training and preparation of students for the medical profession to realize their full potential as female physicians.
History
1887.10 | Mary F. Scranton received financial aid from the Methodist Church and with this aid Korea’s first woman’s hospital opened in Jeong-dong. This was the forerunner of the Ewha Womans University Hospital. Emperor Gojong named it “Boguyeogwan” meaning “A hospital saving and caring for women”. |

1946.03 | One year after Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule, Ewha became the first four-year university to be officially accredited by the government. Ewha boldly introduced disciplines considered inappropriate for women at the time, such as medicine, law, science and journalism. |

2010.02 | Received five years of accreditation from the 2nd Cycle Medical College Accreditation by the Korean Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation. |
2012.06 | Ewha Medical Care (Ewha Volunteers for International Medical Service) received the Health and Welfare Minister's Award. |
2015.01 | The School of Medicine received six years of accreditation from the 3rd Cycle Medical College Accreditation by the Korean Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation. |
