HOKMA College of General Education Holds 2026 Fall Semester Orientation for New Students of the Global Studies Division N

The Global Studies Division held an orientation for new students of the 2026 Fall Semester at the Lee Sam Bong Hall in the Ewha Campus Complex (ECC) on September 16 (Wed). The event was organized to help students newly joining the Global Studies Division make a smooth start to university life and gain a better understanding of various aspects of university life, including academic systems and the curriculum.
The event began with opening remarks by Kim Jihye, Head of the Global Studies Division. Lee Yunkyung, Chaplain, then delivered a message of blessing under the theme “May International Students Become the Center, Not Strangers, with the Values of Ewha,” encouraging the new students as they embarked on a new chapter. Lee Haeyoung, Dean of HOKMA College of General Education, welcomed the students and encouraged them to approach university life with an active and challenging attitude while continuing to broaden their interest in and exploration of the Korean language.
Kim Jihye, Head of the Division, then introduced the Global Studies Division’s curriculum and academic system, providing detailed information on academic matters, with a focus on the curriculum students complete over two semesters during their first year after admission and the procedures for entering a major. She also introduced various extracurricular programs available on campus and provided information to help students broaden their university experience and gain diverse experiences alongside their academic studies.
The orientation continued with a session in which senior students from the Global Studies Division who had completed the major-entry process shared their experiences. The senior students offered practical and realistic advice by introducing campus programs that had helped them adjust to university life, explaining how to check the university website and announcements, and sharing tips on making use of campus communities. Based on their seniors’ experiences, the new students had an opportunity to have their questions about university life answered and envision their future campus life more concretely.
In the latter part of the event, sessions were held by class within the adaptation guidance courses. In each class, senior students who had completed the major-entry process met with the new students in person, answered various questions about academics and university life, and shared practical information helpful for navigating campus life. The sessions also provided an opportunity for students to broaden exchanges between senior and junior students and build familiarity among members of each class through informal communication.
The orientation served as an opportunity to provide new students with comprehensive academic information necessary for university life while helping them develop a better understanding of and sense of belonging to the university through interactions with senior students. HOKMA College of General Education will continue to provide systematic academic guidance and various extracurricular programs to help students in the Global Studies Division adapt smoothly to their new environment and fully develop their capabilities, while continuing to support exchanges and communication among students.
