2026년 하계 입영훈련’을 성공적으로 마친 이화여대 학생군사교육단Ewha Womans University Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), led by Lieutenant Colonel Kwak Seong Hui, successfully completed the 2026 Summer Commissioned Officer Training held over two months from July to August at the Korea Army Cadet Military School in Goesan, Chungcheongbuk-do. Among 108 ROTC units nationwide, Ewha ROTC was selected as an “Outstanding ROTC Unit” and received a commendation from the Commandant of the Korea Army Cadet Military School. With this achievement, Ewha ROTC has been selected as an “Outstanding ROTC Unit in Commissioned Officer Training” for four consecutive years, reaffirming its reputation as a leading ROTC unit.

This year was particularly meaningful as it marked both the 140th anniversary of Ewha’s founding and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Ewha Womans University ROTC. The cadets’ passion and dedication resulted in an even more significant achievement. On Wednesday, August 13, during the training period, President Lee Hyang Sook and Vice President for Research and External Affairs Park Jeong Soo personally visited the Korea Army Cadet Military School to encourage the cadets undergoing intensive training in the midst of extreme heat and rain and delivered care packages. With the President’s encouragement and the university’s strong support, the cadets achieved a valuable accomplishment, carrying on the outstanding tradition of their predecessors.

Lieutenant Colonel Kwak Seong Hui, Commanding Officer of Ewha ROTC, said, “I am proud of the cadets who achieved outstanding results without a single person falling behind, carrying the honor of Ewha in their hearts despite the extreme heat and arduous training. Receiving the Outstanding ROTC Unit in Commissioned Officer Training commendation for four consecutive years in this historic year, marking the 140th anniversary of the university’s founding and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of ROTC, is the result of the cadets’ unwavering passion and efforts, along with the support of the entire Ewha community.”

Established in 2016 and celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Ewha’s 225th ROTC unit has produced outstanding officers every year since the first cadets of the 57th ROTC class were commissioned in 2019. Through military studies education on campus and commissioned officer training, the unit fosters global leaders equipped with intellectual ability, character, and military expertise. Despite its relatively short history, Ewha ROTC has established its competitiveness among 108 university ROTC units nationwide, having received numerous commendations for outstanding performance during commissioned officer training and been selected as an outstanding ROTC unit in evaluations by the Ministry of National Defense and in ROTC competency assessments.

Building on the results of this training, Ewha ROTC will continue its on-campus education and autonomous activities during the second semester and remain committed to cultivating elite officers who contribute to the military and society based on the spirit of Ewha. In addition, with the start of the second semester, Ewha ROTC is recruiting new cadets in the latter half of the year from among first- and second-year students (including third-year students in five-year programs).
