The Ewha Center for Global Social Responsibility (Directed by Ha EunHee) held a two-day educational program titled “Understanding ESG·SDGs and Sustainability Reports” for faculty and staff members of Ewha Womans University from Wednesday, July 15, to Thursday, July 16.
The program was designed to enhance members’ understanding of the university’s sustainability initiatives and strengthen the university-wide ESG·SDGs implementation framework and sustainability reporting system. In particular, the program focused on sharing systems for managing data required for sustainability report preparation and responding to domestic and international university assessments, while establishing a foundation for members of the university community to participate together as key contributors to sustainability efforts.
The program covered the concepts of ESG and the SDGs, recent domestic and international trends, and the social context and need for universities to pursue sustainability. It also emphasized that sustainability is not simply a matter of responding to evaluations, but a key strategy for realizing the university’s social responsibility and values across education, research, social contribution, and campus operations.
Participants were also introduced to the university’s sustainability assessment framework, including the Ewha Womans University Sustainability Report, and learned through practical examples how various activities across the university are connected to the SDGs. Faculty and staff members gained an understanding of how educational, research, social contribution, and operational activities carried out by their respective departments contribute to the university’s accumulated sustainability performance, while sharing the importance of systematic data management and the accumulation of quantitative performance indicators.
In particular, the program provided detailed guidance on data submission criteria and procedures, methods for preparing materials, and principles for managing supporting documentation based on the Sustainability Data Collection Manual. Participants examined SDG classification criteria, methods for documenting key achievements, and approaches to managing quantitative indicators through practical examples, gaining hands-on knowledge that can be applied to future data submissions.
Following the program, the Ewha Center for Global Social Responsibility plans to further advance its sustainability data management system and foster a culture in which sustainability initiatives are continuously documented and accumulated together with members of the university community. Based on the accumulated data, the Center will also work to improve the quality of sustainability reports, strengthen the university’s capacity to respond to domestic and international university assessments, and systematically promote the university’s social value and achievements in sustainable development.
Professor Park SuMin, Specially Appointed Professor at the Ewha Center for Global Social Responsibility, mentioned, “A university’s sustainability is not the responsibility of a particular department or the university alone, but a shared achievement created through the educational, research, and administrative activities of all members of the university community.” She added, “I hope this program will broaden the shared understanding of sustainability and help spread a culture in which all members of the university community work together to build a sustainable university
