Educators of Auburn City, Alabama(U.S.A.) Engage in Studies About Korean Education and Culture

On May 29th through June 1st, the College of Education (Dean Gyuho Hwang) hosted a studies program that introduced South Korea’s education and culture (Global Studies in Education: South Korea) to professors of Alabama’s Auburn University and Auburn City/nearby education offices‘ elementary · middle · high school teachers, a total of ten people in all.

  

This program introduces South Korea’s education and culture to local educators in order to effectively teach the rising population of Korean students due to a KIA company moving into Auburn City. It started from 2011 and has been continuing for 9 years.

  

Participants attended the following lectures provided by the College of Education, △HOKMA College of General Education Professor Brian Ridgeway’s ‘Understanding Korean Culture’, △Department of Social Studies Education Professor Jongwon Lee’s ‘Understanding Korean Education’, △Graduate School of Education Professor Jieun Nam’s ‘Understanding Korean Students.’ They also visited the middle and high school affiliated with Ewha and participated in culture experiencing programs. Through these, they were able to understand Korean education and experience the culture. Not only that but they also met the families of high school students and went through the daily life of Korean students, learned K-pop dances, and made Korean food etc. They completed various culture programs of South Korea’s modern and traditional culture.
