Department of Pharmacy professor Sun Choi has been elected as a 4th term Bio Special Committee civilian member in the PACST Deliberative Council. On March 30th Thursday at the Seoul Gwanghwamun PACST main conference room where “The 14th Bio Special Committee" was opened, she received her letter of appointment.
The PACST is the best science and technology policy deliberative body that is based on the 「Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology Act」, of which the President is the chairperson. It is made up of the advisory council that provides the advisory function and the deliberative council that deliberates policies and budgets. Underneath the deliberative council, there are six special committees (bio, national strategic technology, future talents, infectious disease, carbon neutrality technology, quantum technology etc) and ten profession committees (public · space, energy · environment, ICT · convergence, machine · material, life · medical etc).
The Bio special committee is the control tower that synthesizes and adjusts the policies of all governmental departments that are in the Bio area R&D. Underneath, there is a joint chairman. The government members are comprised of nine team-leader level people from eight governmental departments that are highly related with bio area R&D. Fourteen people who are experts in the field of academia, research, industry, and policy were appointed as the civilian members. The civilian members this time were especially selected with a focus on the profession reinforcement of the 'Innovated Bio' area, which is a national strategic technology.
Following the 3rd term, Professor Choi has again been appointed as part of the 4th term of civilian members. She is a specialist in the area of molecular modeling and computer-aided drug design. Currently the director of the school’s Global AI Drug Discovery Center, she is gaining excellent results through lively ultra-multidisciplinary convergence research. Also, she has been re-elected as the life · medical profession committee chairman of the PACST Deliberation council. Furthermore, she is active as △president of the Korean Biophysical Society △vice-president of the Korean Society Bioinformatics △international cooperation chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea and has held various posts as △president of the Korean Society for Protein Science △president of the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea’s drug·chemical subcommittee society △civilian council member of the National High-Performance Computing Committee and etc.
