A Korean language instruction textbook titled <Reading Korean with Korean Landscapes 1 for Thai Learners> was published on January 10th (Monday) of the new year. The "Korean Reading Instruction for Thai Learners" project was organized by Thailand's Korean Education Institute (President Kim Young-jin) and conducted by Professor Park Sun-hee of the Graduate School of International Studies. The project plans to publish  a series of reading textbooks consisting of a total of 25 textbooks and five reference textbooks for teachers. The textbooks were written under the theme of natural landscape, economy and society, culture, life, and history of Korea. These reading textbooks are published in the form of responsive e-books to enhance learners' accessibility and ease of learning with the aim of learning Korean through texts and activities containing various aspects of Korea. The reading textbook series will be published one after another, starting with “Korean Reading 1 with Natural Landscapes of Korea for Thai learners”.

This project was conducted by specialists in Korean language education, including graduates and enrolled students, led by Professor Park Sun-hee of the Department of Korean Studies at the Graduate School of International Studies. In Thailand, since the official opening of the Korean language curriculum in secondary schools in 2012, about 47,000 learners are currently studying Korean annually in 175 schools. Although the number of Korean learners in Thai secondary schools is increasing, it has been difficult to meet the needs of the teaching and learning field with existing beginner-level textbooks and textbooks for adults published by domestic universities. Through the publication of this reading textbook, it is expected that high-quality intermediate reading textbooks would be provided. At the same time, teachers would be able to utilize various materials for effective Korean language class operation.

Professor Park from the Department of Korean Studies said, "The publication of Korean reading textbooks for Thai learners will enable Korean language teachers and students to learn Korean language using more diverse contents, and will contribute to the growth of talented intellectuals who may connect bridges between Korea and Thailand."
