Journalists from the Media Career Center (MCC), a supporting center for students who want to be journalists, have recently won major media awards.

A journalist Yeonseo Oh of Hankyoreh received the 38th “Kwanhun Press Award” for her article on December 29, 2020 (Tuesday). The “Kwanhun Press Award” is the nation's most prestigious media award presented by the Kwanhun Club. Ms. Oh’s in-depth report on “Nth room case,” sexual exploitation crimes, was highly recognized as it led to punishment of those involved and improvement of the system.

Jiwon Park, a journalist for Segye Ilbo, won the grand prize for her articles “Digital Sex Crimes, determination of punishment.” In her articles, she pointed out the necessity of harsher punishment. In addition, her another article, “#MeToo, life afterwards” won the excellence award.

Journalists from Ewha MCC have been constantly raising their voices for the welfare and human rights of the socially marginalized. Junghwa Kim, a journalist for the Seoul newspaper, won the 30th “Korean Catholic Media Awards” in December and the 9th “Human Right Report Award” from National Human Rights Commission of Korea in February 2020. Her article covered the welfare of teenage parents. Ms. Kim also won the National Union of Media Workers’ 29th “Special Award of Democratic Press” in November 2019  for her consecutive reports on labor rights of teenagers and immigrants. Hyunkyo Yeo, a journalist for Channel A, received the “Reporter of the Year Award” in January from the Korea Woman Journalists Association for her report on problems of welfare system. Ms. Yeo also won the “Reporter of the Year Award” from Journalists Association of Korea in October 2020.

About 40 students dreaming of being journalists are selected through the entrance examination every semester, and about 20 of them become reporters and producers. Professor Jihyang Choi, Assistant Director at Ewha Media Center said, "I hope many Ewha students continue to take the lead in our media industry." Yeonseo Oh, a journalist for the Hankyoreh newspaper, said, “My experience at MCC enabled today’s award. I will continue to write good articles with heavy responsibility.”
