Professor So-Hyun Lee of Department of Special Education received Prime Minister's Citation at the “2020 Social Enterprise Day”.
On the occasion of the Social Enterprise Day, the Ministry of Employment and Labor conferred awards on Monday, July 1 to those of merit (6 government awards and 10 ministerial awards) who contributed to the realization of social values and creating jobs for the vulnerable.
As the founder of Autistar Co., Ltd., Professor So-Hyun Lee was awarded the Prime Minister's Citation in recognition of her great contribution to the development of a designer occupational cluster based on the talents of autistic people and cultivating designers with autism while creating jobs through the industry-academia cooperation social enterprise model. Autistar Co., Ltd. is a social enterprise established by Professor Lee as an industry-academic cooperation research project at Ewha Womans University. Autistar is aiding people with autism to support themselves and improvement of social awareness via product sales and exhibitions of designers with autism. Also, Autistar is taking the lead in disseminating positive outcomes and successful examples of social enterprises in Korea and the participation of the disabled in society. It has distributed its educational model to couple of elementary schools in Uganda, Africa, and introduced the autistic talent-based enterprise model to overseas countries such as China and the United States.
