On July 1st, at the Award Ceremony for "2020 Distinguished Service to Fostering Social Enterprises", hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in commemoration of Social Enterprise’s Day, Chung Sun Hee, an affiliated professor of the Graduate School’s Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy, and a Ph.D. student Lee Hyun Sun won the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit and the Minister of Employment and Labor Award, respectively.
Professor Chung, the winner of the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, has served as a civilian committee member of nurturing social enterprises and socio-economic issues. She has contributed to the socio-economic development and the expansion of the values, providing policy consultation and support. As a director of Cafe O Asia, she established and operated a social cooperative to present a growth model of social enterprises linked to conglomerates. She also contributes to job creation for married migrant women and socially marginalized women in Korea.
A Ph.D. student Lee Hyun Sun won the Minister of Employment and Labor Award, a reward for people who have provided distinguished service to Fostering Social Enterprises, in recognition of her contribution to fostering the establishment and operation of those enterprises, as a representative director of OnAsia, a social enterprise. Ms. Lee said, “I will always work hard and fulfill my duties with humble attitudes to create a more compassionate world.”
The Graduate School’s Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy at Ewha, currently joined by 24 faculty members from 16 departments, in which various departments of the general graduate school actively collaborate.
The program promotes socioeconomic values and related learning program, offers internship opportunities through cooperation with institutions, and helps students to acquire knowledge on the ground. In addition, the program provides various opportunities at home and abroad every semester, such as field trips, socioeconomic start-up competitions, socioeconomic research contests, and social impact forums aiming to spread social values. It has also published a book on socioeconomic insights and outcomes earned from these programs and opportunities. Like this, the cooperative program provides students with vivid and various learning opportunities through field trips and numerous other projects based on multidisciplinary understanding and connection.
