Ewha’s volunteer team centered on overseas education visited Osaka, Japan, for 12 days from January 13 to 24. The team staged volunteer activities for first- and second-generation Korean immigrants in Japan including teenagers. Ewha has become the first university in Korea to dispatch an educational volunteer group for Koreans in Japan.

There were 13 participants including Prof. Miho Honda (Div. of Liberal Arts) and Ewha students. Ewha Volunteers took part in regular classes at the Korea International School in Osaka as assistant teachers and mentors, and prepared afterschool programs to provide the opportunity for students to experience various aspects of Korean traditional culture. In addition, the volunteers visited Eruhwa, a welfare facility for senior citizen Koreans living in Kyoto, and performed a Korean fan dance and sang as entertainment.

These overseas volunteer activities are considered to have opened a new avenue in international volunteering programs in that they broadened their reach from underdeveloped countries in Southeast Asia and Africa to Korean expatriate communities. Each summer and winter vacation, Ewha Volunteers has dispatched volunteers to many countries around the world as well as within Korea. During this winter vacation, Ewha Volunteers sent a total of 12 teams for domestic educational volunteer activities and four medical and educational teams to Vietnam, Japan, and Uzbekistan.
