The 5th Ewha Global Empowerment Program (EGEP) was held on January 15. This kicked off a two-week schedule with the EGEP open forum. The forum was conducted under the theme of “Our Voice, Our World: Women’s Activism and Empowerment in Asia and Africa,” and was attended by 25 EGEP participants from 21 countries.

Sunita Danuwar, who was given the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2013 for her contribution to the promotion of women’s rights in Nepal, was invited as a keynote speaker. The event brought together professors from around the world to retrain women activists. In addition, in collaboration with UN Women this year, Ewha EGEP organized a program called “Action Day with UN Women.”

EGEP is a complimentary education program that provides its international participants with support for their education expenses, accommodation and stay in Korea, and has so far produced 80 female activists from 29 countries. With the competition rate for admission this year at 10:1, the EGEP program has truly become the venue for the education of women activists in Asia and Africa as well as the place to be for networking among participants.
