Ewha was selected for inclusion in the 2013 Educational Policy Analysis, which provides specific funding to universities deigned to have high educational capacity and excellent performance. The Ministry of Education announced the results of its first 2013 Educational Policy Analysis on July 10th. This year, 150 universities sent applications to receive the funding, and 90 of them were chosen and classified into 9 categories. The top 72 universities will receive support after passing the initial evaluation, while the remainder will be required to pass a second round of evaluations, the results of which will be announced at the end of July.

Ewha was classified within a group of private schools in the Seoul metropolitan area. Ewha is one of universities subject to the final confirmation at the first level, with outstanding grades in the quantitative evaluation composed of results and educational environment indices. To improve career development and learning capability of students, Ewha plans to implement various programs. The amount of the support funding will be determined based on each university’s employment rate, enrolled student recruitment rate, teaching staff evaluation, education management system, curriculum operation, scholarships, educational investment, financial burden of college tuition, and other factors. The exact amount of funding allocated to each university will be announced at the end of July 2013.

‘Educational Policy Analysis’ provides educational funding to universities. Recipients are selected based on a formula consisting of various indices measuring each university’s educational capacity and achievements. Universities can use the funds according to their own developmental strategies in order to strengthen educational competency.

The Ministry of Education is in the process of reforming and improving its programs that consider qualitative aspects of education in order to support both character and quality evolution of universities, and is expected to introduce new metrics in the coming year. In particular, Artistic and Physical Departments and Arts and Humanities Departments will be excluded when calculating employment rate, in order to realize the essential pursuit of studying and manifestation of creativity.
