Ewha Global Empowerment Program Initiated

Ewha initiated the Ewha Global Empowerment Program(EGEP) on January 6th. EGEP is the program that fosters women working in the non-governmental area of Asian-African region from January 6 to 18 and is the first case in Korea for a university to support women non-governmental activists.

The total competition rate for the participants was one out of ten due to the enthusiastic interest from the women in the Asia region such as Indonesia, Nepal, India and Pakistan.


The twenty three students from fifteen countries were selected, most of whom are professionals in the NGO acts including a UN activist leading the women participation in politics in East Timor, NGO activist who take part in legislation for prevention of family violence and promotion of gender equality in Mongol, a Coordinator in fund-raising and micro-financing for poor people, and the only women professor in the Social Science field at India National university. All students will receive full scholarship as well as lodging and living expenses.

EGEP, which is hosted by the Ewha Center for Asia Women's Studies started with International forum, 'Asia Women's Studies 2011 : Feminism in Asia and Transnational Women Bond' followed by lectures and field trips. There will be 12 lecturers from 9 countries lecturers including Professor Chang Phil-Hwa, Professor Hara Hifoko from Josai International University for the lectures of the highest standards.

In addition to EGEP, Ewha has been running programs for international women practicing education of sharing and fostering women talents for the world. EGPP, Ewha Global Partnership Program was initiated in 2006 to foster young students from developing countries with full scholarship as a commemoration project of Ewha's 120th Anniversary and is producing fruitful talents of the world. Ewha-KOICA Master's Program is a three semester program, co-hosted by Ewha Graduate School of International Studies and KOICA to foster future international experts needed for developing countries. Presently, the graduates are playing roles as women leaders around the world in the field of woman issues and community development.
