President Kim Sun-Uk Participates in Canada-Korea Conference

President Kim Sun-Uk participated in 'the Canada-Korea Conference(CKC)' from August 7th to 9th.

The 'CKC 2011' was held to celebrate 25th anniversary of the AKCSE: The Association of Korean-Canadian Scientists and Engineers). It was planned to gather the researchers of Canada and Korea and help them build human network and exchange information through presenting their research performances.

Many heads of major organizations concerning Science and Technology participated including Kim Si-Jung, the former minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Park Sang-Dae, the president of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, Park Jun-Teck, the director of Korea Basic Science Institute, and Moon Gilju, the director of Korea Institute of Science and Technology.

Renowned scientists in Korea and Canada including Kang Chil-Young, the professor of Western Ontario University, Rickey Y. Yada, the professor of department of food science at University of Guelph in Canada, Ryu Dae-Young, the professor at the University of California, and Lee Chi-Geun, the current president and Choi Kang-Il the president candidate of the Association of Korean-Canadian Scientists and Engineers joined the conference as well.

A large number of people participated in the conference and shared time to broaden their human network among the people in the field of Korea's Science and Technology. 230 people registered to participate in the conference and 400 is the total estimated number of all the participants including visitors.

President Kim Sun-Uk stressed the important role that Ewha has played throughout the history of women's science in Korea as she delivered the congratulating speech at the WSE: Women in Science & Engineering session on August 7th and keynote speech at the official dinner on August 8th. Ewha produced the first medical doctor of Korea and launched the first women's hospital, leading and challenging the barriers that were faced upon women of Korea in the area of science and technology.

She also introduced various projects that Ewha runs today such as fusion researches in existing areas of science and university-corporation collaboration with the Solvay, the internationally renowned chemical corporation. President Kim said, "We are looking forward to producing the Korea's first Nobel Laureate in Science produced by Ewha, just as Ewha has done so in many other areas consisting our society."
