Ewha College of Education Selected for AI Curriculum Development Project

사범대학이 위치한 교육관 전경Ewha Womans University was selected to receive Middle School AI Convergence funding under the 2026 Teacher Training Curriculum Development Program organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for Science and Creativity. The College of Education will develop curricula for pre-service teachers combining expertise in middle school subjects with AI competencies and establish a college-wide integrated AI education system connecting liberal arts, the teacher training program, major courses, and teaching practice.

The College of Education will launch the Pre-service AI Education System (PAIES) through this project. PAIES is an integrated AI education system for teachers in training that takes them beyond the simple use of AI; they will learn to design classes and assessments, support student growth, and implement AI-based school innovation. PAIES sets AI literacy, AI ethics, AI teaching ability, and AI leadership as its core competencies and is designed to develop those skills progressively throughout the curriculum.

To this end, the college will reorganize the curricula of five majors—Korean, English, mathematics, social studies, and science—to better align with the needs of teacher training in the AI era. It will also develop courses to strengthen the core AI competencies of all pre-service teachers, regardless of their majors. Self-designed module courses will be offered for students to design AI-related learning based on their interests and career paths, along with liberal arts courses on AI ethics, helping lay the groundwork for AI education throughout the College of Education. Ewha’s Share Campus will also be used to make the developed courses and educational content available to pre-service teachers nationwide so that the project’s outcomes can translate into stronger AI education capabilities across teacher training institutions.

The college will also run practice-oriented extracurricular programs linked to the regular curricula. Pre-service teachers will identify problems in educational settings, personally plan and develop AI-based classes and educational tools to address them, and apply their solutions in schools and local communities through volunteer education programs and teaching practice. Training workshops and teaching and learning communities on generative AI, AI-integrated classes, AI ethics, and assessment will be run for faculty, and collaboration with companies and educational institutions will help incorporate the latest technologies and the needs of schools into the curriculum.

This project represents a significant extension of the university’s ongoing development plan and its vision of AI 4 All Ewha (AI4AE) to pre-service teacher education. Ewha plans to apply its university-wide approach to AI education to teacher training to cultivate future-ready teachers who combine subject expertise with AI competencies and lead AI education and innovation in schools.
