Ewha Gets Top S-grade in Innovation Support for Third Straight Year
Ewha Womans University has received the highest “S” grade for the third straight year in the educational innovation category of the 2026 University Innovation Support Project Evaluation announced by the Ministry of Education, following the 2024 and 2025 evaluations, reconfirming its standing as a leader in educational innovation. The university will consequently receive KRW 10.978 billion in total funding, which includes an incentive of KRW 6.578 billion.
This year’s evaluation recognized the following as best practices: outstanding operation of flexible academic systems in every stage of campus life; establishment of a multifaceted support network for undeclared majors; enhancement of the Ewha Student Success Support Program, which encompasses admissions, career path planning, employment and entrepreneurship; establishment of a systematic AI-based educational ecosystem; launch of the Ewha Fundamentals+ initiative to protect and foster basic research; and educational innovation governance centered on student participation with the establishment of a rigorous system for managing academic performance.
Ewha has continued to expand students’ freedom of choice in selecting majors, starting with the introduction of Scranton College’s interdisciplinary major in 2009 and integrated selection for regular admissions by academic division in 2018. As part of a more flexible academic system, Ewha has given students more semesters to change their major, opened more majors to internal transfers, and brought forward the period when students are allowed to apply for a minor or double major, enabling students to choose their majors after sufficient exploration of their aptitude and aspirations. Ewha is also adapting its education system to the changing times and students’ needs by proactively preparing educational environments, including developing programs in cutting-edge fields.
The Ewha Student Success Support Program, which covers the entire process of student development, was also cited as a major achievement. The university runs a tailored guidance program for undeclared majors staffed by faculty advisors, adjunct professors, and student mentors to help students adjust to university life and plan their careers. In 2025, it established a separate center for supporting major selection to expand counseling and programs accommodating students’ diverse aptitudes and career paths. These efforts have led to a lower dropout rate and higher student satisfaction.
Ewha was also praised for its achievements in the digital transformation of educational innovation and efforts to foster basic research. The university is developing a systematic AI-based educational ecosystem that features the AI-based student support system and personalized support for students. It has also established the Ewha Fundamentals+ initiative to protect and foster basic research and operates curricula linking regular and extracurricular programs that cultivate the convergence talent needed for the future through a process of exploration, convergence, and application.
The university was also recognized for enabling student participation in educational innovation governance and establishing a framework for the efficient reallocation of university resources and systematic management of academic performance. In particular, its continued identification and successful implementation of student-centered educational innovation—including improvements to systems for declaring minors and double majors and changing majors, refinement of the foundational competency certification program, and enhancement of the system for managing academic performance—were cited as exemplary practices.
