Professor Jung Yeon Lee of the Division of Clinical Pharmacy in the College of Pharmacy has been appointed as an expert member of the Global Task Force 2026–2027 on Sports Values, Ethics, and Integrity of Herbal Medicines and Related Products, established by the Secretariat of UNESCO's International Convention against Doping in Sport.

The task force will examine the impact of herbal medicines, traditional herbal materials, and related products on sports integrity while advancing the revision and enhancement of international guidelines in this field. As Korea's representative expert, Professor Lee will contribute to the development of global anti-doping policies.

Until now, international anti-doping guidelines have primarily focused on synthetic pharmaceuticals. Although herbal medicines and related products are widely used in athletic settings, comprehensive international standards addressing them from an anti-doping perspective have yet to be fully established. To address this gap, UNESCO formed the new task force and appointed Professor Lee, a leading scholar in the field of sports pharmacy in Korea, as an expert member.

Professor Lee said, "It is a great honor to contribute the expertise of Korean researchers to the development of global anti-doping guidelines. I hope to facilitate the timely adoption of the latest international standards in Korea while helping create opportunities for more Korean experts to play active roles on the global stage."

She added, "Through research on global regulatory harmonization and international standards, the development of rational regulatory frameworks for innovative technologies and novel products, and regulatory economic evaluation, I hope to contribute to cultivating professionals who can effectively respond to the evolving international regulatory environment."

Professor Lee's appointment is also closely connected to her role as President of the Korean Society of Sports Pharmacy (SPARK). SPARK is an interdisciplinary academic society that brings together physicians, pharmacists, Korean medicine doctors, doping specialists, and sports scientists to promote the health of both elite athletes and recreational sports participants, establish evidence-based approaches to doping prevention, and strengthen sports healthcare and pharmaceutical care systems.

SPARK is currently advancing research, education, academic exchange, and external collaboration initiatives. On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the society will hold its first Annual Academic Conference and General Assembly under the theme, "Integrating Multidisciplinary Clinical Practice and Data Analytics: Advancing into the Sports Field." Coinciding with Professor Lee's international activities, the conference is expected to mark an important step in SPARK's expansion onto the global stage.

Professor Lee's appointment reflects international recognition of Ewha Womans University's research excellence in sports pharmacy and regulatory science. It is also expected to strengthen the University's collaboration with UNESCO-affiliated international organizations and expand its global research network.
