Alumna Kim Min-a graduated from the Department of Fashion Design at Dongduk Women’s University (2007), and earned both her master’s degree (2011, advisor Kim Jung-hye) and doctoral degree (2021, advisor Park Sun-hee) in Fashion Design from the Graduate School of Design at Ewha Womans University. She was appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Fashion Design at Suwon Women’s University in the second semester of 2025. She has continued education and research integrating fashion design with digital technology, while also engaging in digital fashion content production and design education based on her practical experience with women’s wear brands. Her work focuses on virtual garment design using 3D CLO and graphic-based fashion expression. Recently, she has expanded her research into fashion design education and virtual fashion that respond to changes in AI and digital environments. Kim Min-a stated, “At Ewha, I was able to build a foundation for viewing design from a broader perspective, and I hope to continue achieving significant growth in both education and research based on what I learned here.”
Alumna Lee Ju-young graduated from the Fashion Design program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) (2004), and earned her master’s degree (2008, advisor Kim Jung-hye) and doctoral degree (2023, advisor Joo Bo-rim) in Fashion Design from Ewha Womans University. She was appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Fashion Design at Kookmin University in the first semester of 2026. She worked as a women’s wear designer for domestic fashion brands and launched her own designer brand in 2015, gaining practical experience through overseas exports, domestic department stores and online distribution, and participation in both domestic and international fashion fairs. Recently, she has been conducting fashion design courses utilizing AI technology and researching design methodologies, focusing on creative design education in digital environments and its connection to industry practice. Lee Ju-young stated, “My time at Ewha was a valuable period that allowed me to grow academically, and thanks to the encouragement and support of the professors who believed in me, I was able to learn and grow tremendously.”
The consecutive appointment of alumni from the Fashion Design major as professors demonstrates the educational and research capabilities of Ewha Womans University’s Fashion Design program. Aiming to cultivate female professionals who will play leading roles in both fashion design education and the industry to realize a sustainable society, the program seeks new directions for education that go beyond the traditional boundaries of the fashion industry while maintaining its art-oriented educational objectives. It positions fashion within the language of formative arts—encompassing form, material, artistry, and the spirit of the times—and pursues an educational approach that deepens both practice and theory through research and formative experimentation. Ultimately, the program fosters creative talents capable of demonstrating their competencies beyond boundaries.
