Ewha College of Engineering Eyes Future on 30th Anniversary

The College of Engineering at Ewha Womans University celebrated its 30th anniversary on May 20 under the theme “EWHA Engineering, Planning the Future” at Lee Sam-bong Hall and the Multipurpose Hall in the Ewha Campus Complex. Established in 1996 as Korea’s first college of engineering for women, the college has nurtured female engineering talent and driven innovation in research over the past three decades. This event was organized to reflect on the college’s achievements and share its vision for the future of engineering education.
The ceremony was attended by more than 200 guests, including Eun Mee Kim, Chairperson of Ewha Womans University’s Board of Trustees, Ewha President Hyang-Sook Lee, university administrators, current and former faculty members, current students and alumnae. In his commemorative speech, Seung-Yeong Song, Dean of the College of Engineering, expressed his commitment to establishing a future-oriented model of engineering education that bridges technology, people, and society, while President Lee reaffirmed Ewha’s determination to lead the transformation of education in the AI era and strengthen its global research competitiveness based on human-centered values and inclusive innovation. The event included presentations of the Ewha Contribution Award, the Pride of Ewha College of Engineering Award, and awards for winners of the Engineering Solutions Challenge.
In celebration of both the university’s 140th anniversary and the college’s 30th anniversary, the College of Engineering launched the Ewha College of Engineering 30+ Future Engineering Fund to support the creation of educational spaces and help foster the creative competencies of future women engineers. The college presented the university with approximately KRW 420 million raised through a fundraiser. The ceremony concluded with the screening of a video for the college’s 30th anniversary and a pledge delivered by a student representative, followed by performances by the Ewha Male Faculty Choir and the College of Engineering band Harudal as well as a networking session for attendees.
On the same day, exhibitions were hosted at the Multipurpose Hall, showcasing leading research projects at the College of Engineering, along with capstone designs and exhibits at corporate booths. During a special lecture, Se Jung Kwon, Executive Director of Naver Cloud, and Youngjin Doh, Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group, shared their insights on ideal talent in the AI era and the future of engineering education. In addition, Professors Hyesook Lim, June Seong Yi, Cho Kyung-Suk, and Sanghun Lee presented their major research findings and shared the progress that the college has achieved over the past three decades. Following on this event, the college plans to continue cultivating female engineering talent to lead the era of AI and advanced technologies based on its vision of “Engineering for the Next 30 Years.”
