Planetary Health Forum 2026 Presents “UniverCity” Vision for Sustainable Future
The Ewha Global Institute for Sustainable Partnership and Empowerment (EGISE) hosted the Planetary Health Forum 2026 on May 15 at the LG Convention Hall in the International Education Building to commemorate the 140th anniversary of Ewha Womans University’s founding and the first anniversary of the institute’s establishment. The forum was organized to examine the impacts of climate change and the energy transition on human health and society while exploring collaborative pathways for a sustainable future.
Under the theme of “Transforming Climate Futures and Empowering Citizens: A UniverCity Initiative for Planetary Health,” the forum brought together representatives from leading domestic and international organizations including the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment; the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency; the World Bank Group Korea Office; the Global Green Growth Institute; the WHO Asia-Pacific Centre for Environment and Health; NAVER; LG Chem; and Samsung E&A.
The forum discussed solutions to the climate crisis and related health challenges through the “UniverCity” model in which universities and cities collaborate on research, education, policy, and public participation. Its first session included keynote addresses and a panel discussion on the impact of climate change and environmental pollution on human health and social equity and concluded with a declaration and pledge in which all participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to planetary health.
Eun-Hee Ha, Director of EGISE, presented “UniverCity Vision” in the second session, and experts from academia, industry, and civil society discussed university and city strategies to achieve planetary health. That session also included the 2026 Ewha ESG Idea Competition Awards Ceremony, which recognized 26 outstanding ideas.
