Sangyeop Kim Assistant Professor

Sangyeop Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science at Ewha Womans University, Seoul, South Korea, where he leads the Data & AI Applications Lab (DAIA Lab). He received his B.S. (2019), M.S. (2021), and Ph.D. (2025) degrees, all in Industrial Engineering, from Seoul National University. His doctoral dissertation proposed an integrated framework that combines large language models with information retrieval, covering semantic search, recommendation, strategic planning, and user analysis. Before joining Ewha, he served as an AI Lead and Researcher at RTM, Coxwave, and Kim & Chang, where he designed and deployed AI systems for anomaly detection in semiconductor manufacturing, multi-agent systems for enterprise conversation analytics, and retrieval and chatbot systems for the legal domain. His research centers on large language models and information retrieval, with a focus on multi-agent systems that autonomously decompose and collaboratively solve complex problems, neural retrieval and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) that link heterogeneous sources at the semantic level, and multimodal reasoning that extends beyond text to vision, speech, and structured data. In collaboration with domain experts, he also develops domain-specific AI tailored to the data and constraints of fields such as manufacturing, finance, law, and healthcare. A consistent thread across his work is trustworthy and safe AI, addressed through safety guardrails, explainability, and red teaming. His research has been published in leading international venues in natural language processing and information retrieval, including ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, and CIKM, as well as in journals such as Information Fusion and Information Processing & Management.
