Title: From Artifacts to Experiences: Augmented and Virtual Reality for Cultural Heritage, Museums, and Education
Summary: This presentation explores how Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) technologies are reshaping the way audiences engage with cultural heritage. Drawing on research at the intersection of cultural heritage, serious games, and human–computer interaction, it examines how immersive and interactive experiences can strengthen learning, emotional engagement, and personalization in museums and educational settings. Particular attention is given to the notion of Cultural User Experience (Cultural UX) as a framework for designing meaningful, visitor-centered encounters with heritage. Through examples drawn from recent projects and prototypes, the talk discusses both the opportunities and the challenges of integrating these technologies into cultural and educational practice, and reflects on emerging research directions and possibilities for future collaboration.
