The cross on the Auditorium looming over the entrance to the university testifies to Ewha's Christian tradition. The chaplain system is an important part of the university organization. The chaplain, a member of the University Council, leads the daily chapel services and the University Church. Every student is required to earn 8 credits by attending the morning chapel services once a week and 3 credits in Christian studies in the course of four undergraduate years.
However, the students, faculty and staff are subject to no religious discrimination. Ewha takes pride in having never experienced religious conflicts of any kind since the days of its foundation when it was managed by Christian missionaries.
