The mission of the school is to develop artistic talents of the students through art education with a strong emphasis on developing well-rounded professionals. During the introductory courses, students will develop their aesthetic expression skills and pursue personal growth.

During the advanced courses, students will develop a critical perception for art by engaging in various experiments and researches and hone their creative ability in order to develop an artistic insight.

With the Introduction of the Division Structure, Changed to Painting & Print Making Major of the Division of Arts, under the College of Arts and Design

With the Reorganization of the Colleges, the College of Arts and Design Changed to the College of Arts. Changed to Painting Major under the Division of Arts and Design

The Aim of Education

The goal of painting education is to develop an artist's perspective in life and the world so that the artist can strengthen her creative expression skills. It also aims at nurturing professionals with global artistic vision, in order to research and critique contemporary art in depth. Objectives for Education :

  • During the introductory courses, students will develop their aesthetic expression skills and pursue personal growth.
  • During the advanced courses, students will develop a critical perception for art by engaging in various experiments and researches and hone their creative ability in order to develop an artistic insight.
  • Through various theoretical studies including art history, students will learn about art in the broader context of culture. Also, by participating in many on-site excursions, students will be better equipped to analyze contemporary art.
Careers and Graduate School Destination
  • There are many different career paths for graduates of the western painting major. Many Ewha graduates are active artists in the field and are devoted to fostering artists of the future generation.
  • Upon completing the teaching certification program, students can teach in professional schools. In addition, our graduates are actively working as professional designers, art journalists, curators and are engaged in the field of art industry in many different ways.
