The Department of Korean Language and Literature was founded in 1947. The name of the department changed several times from 'Korean Literature' to 'Korean Language and Literature' before changing to its current name in 1997. The Department of Korean Language and Literature studies various literatures from the classics to modern, criticism, linguistics, and even Korean Language as a foreign language.

The Aim of Education

The department's purpose is to discover the identity of the Korean people through systematic understanding and study of Korean language and literature, and ensure the place of Korean literature among World literature.
Furthermore, the department aims to broaden the students' vision and increase their interest, insight, and expressiveness through in depth study of the Korean language and literature. Through such education, the department's goal is to cultivate students who will carry out specialized academic research in the field and women professionals involved in Korean language and literature in various areas of society.
