Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy Holds 4th Ewha Social Economy Startup Academy “Hackathon”

On the 14th (Fri), an intermediate inspection process of the 2022 Ewha Social Economy Startup Academy (Director: Prof. Lee So-hyun), Hackathon, hosted by the Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy, was held. The Ewha Social Economy Startup Academy, which marks its fourth anniversary this year, is currently attended by 14 teams and 36 students, and is designed to provide systematic start-up education, mentoring, and hackathon sessions to Ewha undergraduate and graduate students. In particular, Hackathon was organized as a time to take a step closer to starting a business by developing and checking students' ideas during the academy process.
This year, Hackathon was held at the social impact space platform "OnDream Society" located in Jung-gu, Seoul. OnDream Society is the first platform of Hyundai Motor's Chung Mong-Koo Foundation, which was designed to innovatively solve environmental problems with future generations. Hackathon last year was held non-face-to-face in the metaverse platform Gathertown, but this year, students were able to participate in the more lively session with face-to-face conversation in OnDream Society.

Hackathon began with an opening speech by Academy Director Kim Min-seok, an encouragement speech by Director Lee So-hyun, Professor Cho Sang-mi, and Professor Lee Hyung-joon, and an introduction to the OnDream Society and greetings by Jaeho Choi Secretary General of Hyundai Motor's Chung Mong-Koo Foundation. It was then followed by a free exchange of feedback after proposal presentations prepared during the academy through seven-minute idea pitching by each team.

The 2022 Ewha Social Economy Startup Academy" is held 10 times in total including 4 common education sessions, 4 one-on-one mentoring sessions, and programs such as Hackathon and competitions. In particular, on December 1, a total of seven teams will be given certificates, money, and prizes at the last performance presentation: Ewha Presidential Award (Grand Prize) 1 team, Ewha Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy Award (Social Value Award) 1 team, Ewha College of Art & Design Director Award (Social Impact Award) 1 team, Ewha Industry-Academic Cooperation Award (Creative Challenge Award) 1 team, Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency Award (Social Innovation Award) 1 team, Merry Year Foundation Director Award (Social Challenge Award) 1 team, Underdogs CEO Award (Game Changer Award) 1 team.
