Members of Ewha Womans University’s Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation Shine at the “Women, Power of the Future: 140 Years of Korea–France Dialogue” Forum
At the “Women, Power of the Future: 140 Years of Korea–France Dialogue” forum jointly hosted by Ewha Womans University and the Embassy of France in Korea on Monday, May 18, in celebration of the 140th anniversary of Ewha’s founding and the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, members of Ewha Womans University’s Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation (Dean Mikyung Choi) played a leading role in facilitating dynamic multilingual communication throughout the event.
Held at the LG Convention Hall in the International Education Building on campus, the forum brought together Korean and French women leaders from various fields—including industry, culture and the arts, and science—to explore the role and potential of women in shaping the future of society and to strengthen solidarity between the two countries.
The forum consisted of three sessions:

▲ Women Opening the Future of Science and Knowledge
Faculty members and instructors from the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation personally provided Korean–French and Korean–English simultaneous interpretation throughout the event, ensuring smooth and seamless communication while adding significance to the 140 years of Korea–France diplomatic relations.
The practical participation of current students also stood out. Korean–French translation students collaborated on subtitle translation for an online video message delivered by writer J. M. G. Le Clézio, who participated as a discussant in the second session.
Le Clézio, recipient of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature and former Distinguished Professor at Ewha Womans University, reflected on his time at Ewha as “one of the happiest and most fruitful memories” of his life, expressing deep affection for the university. He remarked, “The beauty of the campus, where nature and architecture exist in harmony, serves as a driving force behind students’ intellectual and moral growth,” adding, “I am convinced that the power of women-led education will play a decisive role in resolving the contradictions of modern society, and I wholeheartedly support Ewha’s journey into the future.”
The students who participated in the translation project gained valuable hands-on experience in translation and interpretation by helping deliver the message of a world-renowned author to audiences both within and beyond the university community.
The forum once again demonstrated the outstanding capabilities and teamwork of members of the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation on the global stage.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2027, Ewha Womans University’s Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation has produced highly respected professionals, including summit interpreters and translators of Nobel Prize-winning literature, who have played leading roles at the forefront of international exchange. In particular, the school continues to contribute to a wide range of industries and cultural fields through education tailored to the AI era, grounded in advanced interpreting and translation expertise and exceptional linguistic professionalism.
