Research Professor Jung Hye-jeong of the Department of Science Education has received consecutive honors in recognition of her research achievements in the field of geo-environmental science, winning the Geological Society of Korea’sYoung Geologist Awardand theFuture Talent Awardfrom the Federation of Korean Women Scientists and Engineers (KOFWST).
Professor Jung received theYoung Geologist Awardat the2025 Fall Joint Conference of Geological Sciences and the 80th Annual General Meeting of the Geological Society of Korea, held from Tuesday, October 28 to Friday, October 31. The Young Geologist Award is presented to early-career researchers under the age of 40 who have made significant contributions to the advancement of geology through active and outstanding research.
Professor Jung was recently selected for the National Research Foundation of Korea’s Sejong Science Fellowship, through which she is conducting research that uses multi-stable isotope–based numerical modeling to trace nitrogen residence times and transport pathways within watersheds. Building on this work, she scientifically elucidates the circulation characteristics and response mechanisms of nutrients under both anthropogenic and natural influences, thereby contributing to river water quality management and the formulation of aquatic environment conservation policies. In addition, she is leading integrative research to identify changes in hydrological and nitrogen cycles in polar regions under global warming, shedding light on previously overlooked linkages in biogeochemical cycles.
Professor Jung was also selected as a recipient of theFuture Talent Award(Academic Division, Earth Science) presented by the Federation of Korean Women Scientists and Engineers, and officially received the award at its 16th Annual General Meeting held on Friday, November 21. The Future Talent Award was established to identify and encourage promising female scientists and engineers through outstanding research achievements. It is awarded to women scientists and engineers under the age of 40 who are within five years of receiving their doctoral degree and have demonstrated exceptional research performance. This year, a total of 12 awardees were selected across the academic and industrial divisions.
