약학대학 류재상 교수Professor Ryu Jae-sang of the College of Pharmacy has received the 14th Academic Award from the Korean Society of Organic Synthesis (KSOS), also known as the TCI–SEJIN CI Academic Award. The award ceremony was held on Monday, November 24, at Sono Belle Cheonan during the31st Korean Society of Organic Synthesis Symposium and the 2025 Annual General Meeting.

The Korean Society of Organic Synthesis is a leading academic society in Korea, established to promote research and scholarly activities in the field of organic synthesis chemistry. The Society fosters active collaboration among academia, industry, and research institutes in areas such as synthetic methodology development, catalysis, and pharmaceutical synthesis, and hosts various academic conferences and forums with the aim of advancing science and contributing to society.

The KSOS Academic Award is presented to researchers who have produced creative and outstanding research achievements and made significant contributions to the advancement of organic synthesis chemistry. Professor Ryu has continuously published original and excellent research results in the development of catalyst-based organic synthesis strategies and the synthesis of pharmaceutical candidate molecules, leading the advancement of organic synthesis research in Korea. In recognition of these accomplishments, he was selected as the recipient of the 14th Academic Award.

Professor Ryu has conducted research of both academic and practical value through sophisticated catalytic reaction design, selective bond-forming strategies, elucidation of reaction mechanisms, the development of platforms for synthesizing bioactive compounds, and studies on the synthesis of new drug candidates. In particular, his interdisciplinary research that bridges medicinal chemistry and organic synthesis has laid the groundwork for drug candidate discovery and structural optimization, producing achievements that have drawn significant attention from both academia and industry.

In addition, through collaborative research with domestic and international scholars in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry, the publication of numerous SCI-indexed international papers, and activities such as patent applications and technology transfer, Professor Ryu has made substantial contributions to strengthening Korea’s competitiveness in the field of organic synthesis. This award represents a meaningful recognition by the Korean Society of Organic Synthesis of his sustained research leadership and scholarly contributions.
