Hye-Song Choi, a student in the integrated M.S.-Ph.D. Program at Ewha Womans University’s Graduate School, department of artificial intelligence has been appointed as a tenure-track faculty member at the school of electronic engineering of Soongsil University beginning in the second semester of the 2025 academic year.
Ms. Hye-Song Choi completed her undergraduate studies in the department of convergence contents (major) and the department of computer science and engineering (double major) at Ewha Womans University before entering the department of artificial intelligence and software at graduate school in 2020. Under the supervision of Professor Dong-Bo Min (Department of Computer Science and Engineering), she will complete her integrated M.S.-Ph.D. program in 5 years and 6 months and is expected to receive her doctoral degree in August 2025. Being appointed as a tenure-track faculty member immediately after earning her Ph.D., at the age of 27 and without any prior career at another institution shows the competitiveness and excellence of Ewha Womans University’s academic program and research capabilities.
Choi’s research has focused on enhancing training efficiency in machine learning, including topics as Sample-efficient reinforcement learning for robotics control, Efficient training methodologies for large-scale AI models, and Training strategies leveraging generative AI techniques.
These research results led to the presentation of total nine papers (including five as first author) at world-class AI conferences such as CVPR, NeurIPS, and ICCV. In 2024, she also conducted research on large-scale AI training using generative models as a visiting researcher at UBC, Canada. From March to August 2025, she has been continuing her research on optimizing large-scale video and text-based models as a research intern at NAVER AI Lab.
Recognized for her research excellence, Ms. Choi was awarded a Solvay Scholarship (50 million KRW) as a Solvay Scholarship Foundation fellow.
