The Graduate School of International Studies, Department of Korean Studies, hosted a welcome dinner for the2025 KF–Ewha Global e-School Fellowshipon Thursday, August 7, at the Ewha International Education Building.
The KF–Ewha Global e-School is a global Korean studies talent development program organized by the Korea Foundation (KF) and hosted by Ewha Womans University. It offers real-time online Korean studies lectures and seminars to students at overseas universities and supports Korean studies research worldwide. The program was launched in 2011 by Professor Hae-Young Lee of the Department of Korean Studies at the Graduate School of International Studies (former Chair of the King Sejong Institute Foundation) and is now in its 15th year under the leadership of Professor Sun-hee Park.
In 2024, the KF–Ewha Global e-School offered Korean studies and Korean language courses to more than 850 students from 22 universities in eight countries. Among these students, outstanding participants were selected for the fellowship dinner. Guests included KF representatives—Assistant Manager Sang-Il Lim and Officer Hyun-Ju Lee—as well as Ewha professors Sun-Hee Park (Korean Studies), Hae-Young Lee (Korean Studies), Hyun-Yong Choi (Korean Language & Literature), and Se-Wan Kim (Economics), along with other distinguished attendees, who offered encouragement to the fellows.
This year’s fellowship recipients, chosen from among top-performing students of the 2024 KF–Ewha Global e-School, were: Nguyễn Hương Giang from University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Anastasiia Ivleva from Vilnius University, Lithuania; Lena Jovanovic from Sofia University, Bulgaria; Tanida Kongcharoen from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand; and Yumi Fujioka from Waseda University, Japan. They shared their reflections, mentioning,“Through the e-School lectures, our interest in Korean studies has grown that we now dream of studying at a Korean university. This fellowship will be a valuable opportunity to explore our future career paths.”
Professor Sun-Hee Park, the program’s academic director, remarked,“It has been deeply meaningful to broaden the global reach of the Korean language and Korean studies through the KF–Ewha Global e-School. I hope that this year’s fellows will serve as bridges between Korea and their home countries and grow into global leaders who are active on the global stage.”
From August 4 (Monday) to August 18 (Monday), the fellows are participating in Ewha International Summer College, where they will engage in Korean language classes, special lectures in Korean studies, and cultural experience programs to gain a comprehensive understanding of Korean studies and Korean culture.
