Undergraduate students majoring in earth science from the Department of Science Education earned the pleasure of being awarded in the category of intellectual and specialty presentation at the <17th Joint Geological Science Field Camp in 2025>, conducted at Taebaek from July 15th (Tue) to 17th (Thu).
The Joint Geological Science Field Camp conducted by the Geological Society of Korea to foster and find geology students by perking interest and curiosity to future geology students, and promoting communication and amity among geology related majoring students all over the nation was held this year at the Taebaek-Jungsun area led by Korea University, about 100 geology related major students participated.
Students Kim Chae-Young, Kang Da-Young
Student Kim Chae-Young, class of ’22 (led by Professor Lee Jung-Hoon from the Department of Science Education) received the excellence award in the acamedic presentation category at the camp for her research theme “Analysis on the Correlation Between Stable Isotopes in Domestic Precipitation and Tree Leaves.” Her study was the first of its kind to be conducted in Korea, analyzed the correlation between the stable isotopes of the atmosphere and vegetation. By this, it is significant since the ecosystem and earth system can be understood holistically through this research. It was recognized for its potential to provide insight into new directions in research and whole understanding of diverse systems in geology and environmental geochemistry in the future and was awarded the excellence award in the category of intellectual presentations.
Kim stated, “In such a place called the National Joint Geology Field Camp with geology related professors and students, it was a great chance to present my research, and I am glad to receive this award,” and added “I will continue to research on diverse themes and want to grow into a student of Ewha, and a scientist that proves the excellent research abilities of Ewha Womans University.”
Meanwhile, students from the class of ’23 majoring in earth science Kang Da-Young, Kim Min-Ju, Kim Seo-Jin, Kim Chae-Young, Kim Ha-Eun, Bang Hyo-Ju, Yoon Ji-Won, Lee Bo-Young, Lee Shin-Hye, Lee Jae-In, and Hwang Seung-Ah received the encouragement award in the category of “specialty presentations.” Kang Da-Young, representing the third-year students, mentioned “It was a chance for all the students in the camp majoring in earth science to learn cooperation in preparing for the presentation, and I am so proud this led to an award.”
