The Special Education Research Institution (directed by Park Ji-Yeon) signed MOU with Seoul’s Borderline Intellectual Functioning Center For Continuing Education (led by Kim Seong-Ah) to plan and develop lifelong education for borderline intellectuals on August 7th, at Education Building B’s room 253. This MOU was led by Ewha Womans University’s Special Education Research Institution, and both institutions promised to build an inclusive and professional education system

An ‘borderline intellectual’ refers to someone who has an intelligence level between a disabled person and a non-disabled person, with an IQ level between 70 to 79 in a standardized intelligence test. Due to their cognitive disability to reach the average intelligence, they have difficulties in various aspects of life such as school life, emotions, and relationships. These difficulties affect daily life and adopting to society therefore continuing support and care for borderline intellectuals are crucial.
Both institutions due to this MOU will co-develop programs for lifelong education for borderline intellectuals, conduct related research, and cooperate for raising social awareness and fostering a healthy support system.
