The Ewha Journalists Club Hosts 2025 General Gathering and Ewha Journalist Award Ceremony

The ‘Ewha Journalists Club’ composing of Ewha alumnae, hosted its ‘2025 general gathering and the 25th ‘This year’s Ewha Journalist’ award ceremony’’ on Tuesday, June 21st, at the Lee-Sam-Bong Hall in ECC.

The Ewha Journalists Club is a network of Ewha graduates who are journalists in fields like newspaper, program, and magazine, was founded in 1997 and now marks its 27th year. The ceremony attendees included over 80 people, Chairperson Jang Myung-Soo, President Lee Hyang-Sook, Vice President for Academic Affairs Park Sung-Yeon, Vice President for Research and External Affairs Park Jung-Soo, faculty members from the department of communication and media gathered to celebrate the awardees and encourage members of the Ewha Journalists Club. 

Anchored by Lee Yoon-Hee, a KBS anchor (Mass Communication, class of ’00), the event began with an opening speech from club president Kim Sun-Hee (English Education, class of 1993), and Ewha president Lee Hyang-Sook mentioned in her congratulatory speech that with “Ewha leads a different times with ‘inclusive innovation,’ we hope that Ewha will develop as an educational institution with this vision and continue to lead the times and innovate endlessly being a research-focused university that is able to have insight on society through women’s perspectives and lean towards the needs of the public,” and added “on this journey, I hope Ewha Journalists’ voice and vision will be there as well, and hope for loving support” as well.

Next up was the ceremony for the Ewha Journalist Award. The Ewha Journalists Club has selected a journalist with outstanding performance every year since 2001. The 25th ‘This Year’s Ewha Journalist Award’ went to Lee Jung-Ae, director of future affairs at SBS News Headquarters (History, class of 1996), and Lee Sung-Kyung, News director at Korea Economic TV (Law, class of 1996). Alumni Lee Jung-Ae is a veteran journalist with over 30 years of experience, focusing on problems like the aging population and low birth-rates through programs like Future Korea Report’ and SDF, she also published the Journalist Trauma Guidebook and was recognized for her helping journalists recover psychologically. Alumni Lee Sung-Kyung is a founding member of the Korea Economy TV and the first new director, she focused on key government beats including the Blue House and economic ministries, she delivered in-depth programs such as Policy Briefing and Window on the Economy W, enabling new horizons in economic journalism.

The ceremony included the selection of the new leading team of the Ewha Journalists Club. Kim Yoon-Duk, senior reporter at Chosun Ilbo (Political Science & Diplomacy, class of 1992), was appointed as the 12th president. Choi Jin-Sook, Editorial Writer atFinancial News(Psychology, Class of 1995),Eun Ji-Hyang, Head of Digital Content Production at SBS (Political Science & Diplomacy, Class of 1996), andHa Chae-Rim, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs and National Security atYonhap News(Pharmacy, Class of 1998), were appointed as Vice Presidents. They will lead the club for the next two years.

The second half of the evening was a networking event for alumnae, “Evening of Fellowship for Ewha Journalists,” and began with the toast from Ewha Foundation Chairperson, Jang Myung-Soo. The alumnae journalists enjoyed their reconnection at their school and strengthened ties as professionals and with the love for Ewha.
