Ewha Team Manages to go to Finals and Participates in Global Panel Talk


The inaugural Global Student Startup Competition (GSSC), held with the16th Asian Leadership Conference (ALC)fromMay 21 (Wed) to 22 (Thu)at Ewha Womans University, marked a significant starting point while Ewha’s teamstARTmade it to the finals.


GSSC, an official program of the ALC, which is Asia’s premier international forum, functioned as a global stage for student entrepreneurs from world-renowned universities such as Harvard University, UC Berkeley, Aalto University, Cornell University, and USC. Under the theme“Human-Centric AI: Augmenting and Empowering Humanity,”teams formed by students competed by presenting innovative startup ideas. As the official host university, Ewha played a critical role in organizing the preliminary rounds, hosting bootcamps, workshops, and mentoring programs for teams that were participating.


12 teams in total participated in this year’s competition. Five teams advanced to the finals: Ewha’sstART, Seoul National University’sREVITA, POSTECH’sEYE-TERRA, UC Berkeley’sLIVING AUTISM, and USC’sDORI. These teams presented creative AI source solutions to solve social issues such as integration, support for the elderly, and ethical use of technology.


Ewha’sstARTteam, led by Seong Ah-jeong, proposed an AI-based job-matching service for senior workers. The idea was highly praised by the judges for its feasibility and social impact. Although it did win the final prize, the team’s creativity and execution were greatly recognized.



During the ALC, a special session named“Let AI Lead Startup Education!”was also held. Ewha’s Director of Startup Support and Head of the Campus Town Project, Professor Kim Sang-jun, and professors from USC, Aalto University, and Cornell University were panelists. Professor Kim emphasized the impact of AI on startup education and ecosystems and shared Ewha’s efforts on its ecosystem, like a thriving women-centered startup system and trying to improve startup competitiveness through AI integration.

Additionally, during theGlobal Student Entrepreneur Panel TalkProfessor Gigi Wang of UC Berkeley and Han Yun-hee, CEO of BDGZ and Ewha alumna, represented Korea and engaged in deep discussions with students from Harvard and Aalto. They shared insights into the startup landscapes of their respective countries, their journeys on entreprenuership, and the future of AI innovation. Professor Wang highlighted that“a growth mindset, teamwork, and trust are essential to becoming a successful entrepreneur,”offering useful advice to future student founders.


Through their participation in GSSC and ALC, Ewha students gained valuable experiences in global collaboration and entrepreneurship, inspiring young innovators both nationally and globally.


Ewha plans to continue leading the development of future female entrepreneurs through world-class startup education and global networking. Finalist teams from GSSC will continue to receive support, including access to startup spaces, customized mentoring, and international exchange programs.
