On Saturday, April 19, 2025, the Department of Music Therapy, Graduate School signed an educational agreement with Hong’Ai General Hospital, located in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China, to implement a medical music therapy program.
Hong’Ai General Hospital has experienced rapid growth since its establishment in 2018, expanding to include five medical institutions by 2022, such as an Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital, and Geriatric Hospital. Medical Director Xingquan You (游兴泉) emphasized a patient-centered approach grounded in the philosophy of “Health Humanities,” and expressed a strong commitment to becoming the first in China to integrate arts-based healing programs into the hospital system through non-medical interventions.
In addition, the C&D Foundation (建发集团), which has established and operates Hong’Ai and the other four affiliated hospitals, signed a research collaboration agreement with Ewha Music Wellness Research Center. The foundation recently launched the Hongai-Galaxy Arts Health Center, which will specialize in delivering music therapy services in medical environments. To commemorate the partnership, Professor Hyun Ju Chong, Director of Ewha Music Wellness Research Center, was invited to give a special lecture on medical music therapy for physicians, nurses, and healthcare staff at Hong’Ai General Hospital. From April 21 to 24, she also conducted site visits and supervision sessions at the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and geriatric rehabilitation ward, where music therapy sessions are currently being implemented.

The newly established Hongai-Galaxy Arts Health Center is expected to be operated with corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding from companies such as Huawei Electronics and Ogawa Medical Devices. The center plans to launch formal projects focusing on the effectiveness of music therapy and complementary medical approaches for patients facing health challenges, with a primary goal of supporting their psychological and emotional stability.
Furthermore, the Arts Health Center aims to promote the professional development and re-education of interdisciplinary practitioners with field expertise in music therapy. It seeks to serve as an integrated practice hub, establishing long-term cooperative mechanisms across academia, hospitals, NGOs, and healthcare companies—uniting research, industry, and education.

We are committed to providing both financial and material support to ensure its success.”
