[오늘의 이화] 1955년 9월 / 과학관 완공[Today's Ewha] September 1955 / Completion of the Science Hall

The Science Hall (currently Pharmacy Hall Building A) is a stone building with a galvanized iron roof, consisting of one basement level and three floors above ground, with a total floor area of 4,122 square meters. Its exterior closely resembles that of the Main Hall, and thus, it has been referred to as “the twin of the Main Building.” Construction began in October 1948 and was about 80% complete when it was suspended and damaged due to the outbreak of the Korean War.

After returning to Seoul, Ewha devoted efforts to the reconstruction of its campus, and in September 1955, completed the new Science Hall to be used by the Departments of Medicine and Pharmacy.

The building was named Appenzeller Hall in honor of Appenzeller, whose remarkable contributions significantly advanced the development of Ewha. It currently houses the College of Pharmacy along with Pharmacy Hall Building B, which was newly constructed in 1994.
