Becoming One by Sharing and Love (Department of Science Education Faculty Council)

The Department of Science Education Faculty Council was pleased to donate 50 million KRW for the “scholarship commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Department of Science Education.” Upon delivering the donation, the faculty council remarked, “We hope that our students will continue to chase their dreams, discover opportunities and possibilities, create positive changes, and grow into leaders of our society.”
Preparing for a New Era after 60 Years since Its Founding
Ewha’s Department of Science Education gained its name in 1969 as the first department of its kind in Korea and has been serving as a leader in the field of science education. The department marks the 60th anniversary of its founding this year and now, facing the new era, it produces convergence specialists to promote the spread of scientific culture. It is also making full preparations to be able to lead research and education for convergence science in the era of lifelong science education.
To this end, professors and graduates of the Department of Science Education are continuing to establish scholarship programs to help students to learn in a stable environment. The Department of Science Education Faculty Council took the lead in donations for fostering talented individuals even before this latest fundraising achievement for the “scholarship commemorating the 60th founding anniversary of the Department of Science Education.” For its 50th anniversary, 18 professors from the department donated a total of 140 million KRW for a scholarship and many students and graduates also participated in the donation drive as if to match their professors’ generosity. As a result, the fundraising drive for the “scholarship commemorating the 50th founding anniversary of the Department of Science Education” gathered a total of around 225 million KRW.
Love Creates Love
Along with such continued efforts to launch scholarships, the Department of Science Education Faculty Council wishes to become a staunch supporter to students so that they will not despair in the face of adversity and prepare themselves in anticipation of coming changes. The faculty council commented, “The Ewha community is a place where we come together to share and overcome difficulties that anybody can encounter. We hope that all of us will strive to realize our dreams for a bright future by doubling down on hope, even in difficult times,” and presented a message of courage and hope to students through the slogan “We Stand Together,” providing emotional support beyond financial support through donations. Love creates love. Students who mature under the positive influence of their teachers’ acts of sharing and love are certain to grow into leaders who will build a better society to live up to their teachers’ limitless support and expectations.
