Ewha’s Career Development Center and the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) held the International Conference and MZ Youth Job Fair at Lee Sam-bong Hall of the ECC building on August 31, 2023 (Thu.) to propose a model of sustainable green finance through university-industry exchanges.
The conference, titled “Change the World with Green Finance,” was attended by key figures from Ewha Womans University, global financial companies, including HSBC and ING, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the FSS, and KB Financial Group, with the aim to introduce green finance response cases, international trends and strategies. The conference was held to great success, drawing about 200 attendees.
The 2023 International Conference, the first session of which began at 9 a.m., commenced with an opening speech by Governor Lee Bokhyun of the Financial Supervisory Service and a welcome speech by President Eun Mee Kim. Congratulatory remarks were then delivered by Head of the National Policy Committee Baek Hyeryun, and global figures such as former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and British Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Colin Crooks, followed by presentations on seven topics. These included presentations on green finance cases and strategies of the respective organizations represented by HSBC Director of Climate Change Pritya Widiarta, Head of ING Korea Philip van Hoof, and Managing Director Werner Grub of the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO). Other speakers included WWF Initiative Lead Maud Abdelli, FSS Lead Manager Jaehak Hwang, Professor Sanghun Lee of Ewha’s Department of Climate and Energy Systems Engineering, and Head of Financial AI Center Soonyoung Oh of KB Kookmin Bank.
The programs in the second session included AI Challenge, an idea contest on AI-based future finance, and MZ Youth Job Fair. In particular, major financial companies, digital companies and global businesses provided insights into hiring procedures and employment strategies including interview preparation tips based on multiple cases, providing a positive opportunity for university students including Ewha who want to work in the financial industry.
The International Conference has been held at Ewha on a yearly basis since 2019. The event has served as a venue for discussions to closely examine the concept of green finance, a core pillar for the achievement of carbon neutrality amid the current climate change crisis, and to seek response plans and new growth engines of the domestic financial industry. Moreover, the event is expected to help generate ideas for innovative future finance and raise the awareness on future finance among young people through the support of youth employment.
