Ewha Womans University celebrated the graduation of a total of 5,666 students, including 3,388 bachelors, 2,026 masters, and 252 doctors in spring and fall of 2019, accompanied by two video clips that delivered the president's commencement address and a congratulatory message.

The school originally planned to host an online ceremony with a minimal number of participants on Friday, August 28 for both the 2019 Spring Commencement that had been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak in combination with the Fall Degree Ceremony this year. However, Ewha cancelled the online ceremony as the spread of the infection became more serious and Korea’s social distancing posture has been raised to Level 2. Instead, Ewha released two videos on the Ewha YouTube account at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 28, one delivering the commencement address by President Kim Heisook and the other celebrating the students’ graduation.

In the commencement address, which was the first in Ewha history to be delivered in a video format, President Kim Heisook expressed her regret at this unprecedented situation that caused the cancellation of the commencement ceremony and said "My most heartfelt congratulations extend to you on your departure from our beloved campus and the start of your new lives in the broader world."

Ewha also extended the rental period for graduation gowns and installed props on the campus such as banners bearing Ewha’s green emblem, so that graduates could take commemorative photos against the backdrop of the beautiful campus. Along with the president's commencement address, the university also produced and released a congratulatory video that will remind graduates of their college life at Ewha over the past four years. The videos are available on the Ewha YouTube channel.

The graduates consisted of 2,376 bachelors graduating in spring and 1,012 in fall, and 1,210 masters in spring and 816 in fall, and 140 doctors in spring and 112 in fall. Graduates were able to pick up their graduation certificates and diplomas at the relevant department office, starting on Friday, August 28. In the meantime, Ewha is monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak so it can respond proactively to the spread of the pandemic, and is taking every preventive measure, such as setting up body temperature checkpoints throughout the campus.
