Ewha Chosen for Institutional Recruitment Program under Brain Pool+ Project
Ewha Womans University was selected for the Institutional Recruitment Program under the Brain Pool+ Program organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea, laying the groundwork for establishing a global hub for innovative bio-quantum convergence research. The Institutional Recruitment Program, newly introduced this year, only selects about five institutional fellows across the nation. The university will receive a grant of KRW 13.5 billion in total funding over the next four and a half years, from this July to the end of 2030, to launch full-fledged transdisciplinary convergence research and global collaborative research projects. Significantly, Ewha will leverage its institutional capacities by establishing a university-wide system that places its major departments under the President’s leadership as principal investigator.
Ewha has established a convergence research platform centering on the four strategic fields of pharmaceutical sciences, brain and cognitive sciences, chemistry and nanoscience, and physics (quantum science) that will be joined by Distinguished Professor Lyoo In Kyoon, Professor Sang Beom Jun, Professor Yu Jinha, Professor Hwang Inah, Professor So-Jung Park, Professor Saehyun Choi, Professor Seokhyun Yoon, Professor Dong-Wook Kim, and others. The university plans to recruit world-class international scholars for research collaboration that is expected to be a milestone in Ewha’s drive to become a global hub for innovative bio-quantum convergence research.
Ewha has attracted outstanding international researchers through initiatives such as the Ewha Frontier 10-10 Project and Ewha Global Excellence Program, launched in 2022 and 2025 respectively, under which 31 convergence and interdisciplinary research groups have been created and 32 scholars and researchers have joined collaborative research projects to date. Thus far, Ewha has been selected for 16 Brain Pool projects, enhancing its capacity for attracting international talent.
Following the completion of the project, Ewha will establish the Ewha Bio-Quantum Convergence Center (tentative name) to build a financially independent research ecosystem by securing large-scale global research projects with institutions such as Horizon Europe and the National Institutes of Health in the United States and creating a startup ecosystem based on original technologies. Ewha will strengthen its leadership in bio-quantum research based on its world-class research infrastructure, including the IBS Center for Quantum Nanoscience, Ewha Brain Institute, and Ewha Biomedical-Healthcare Cluster.
