Graduation for the Class of 2012 Held

Ewha held a graduation ceremony for the class of 2012 on Aug. 30
th
(Fri
‧
10a.m.) in the
auditorium for 1,854 graduates (932 bachelor’s degrees, 827 master
’
s degrees, 95 doctoral degrees).
At the event, President
Sun Uk Kim emphasized that the degrees that the students received were symbolic
of their new status as mature adults, capable of surmounting any challenge in
their lives. She encouraged students, saying
“
I hope you become masters of many possibilities and
opportunities that lie ahead of you.
”
She also
expressed gratitude to parents for protecting and raising the students and to professors
for guiding them to succeed academically.
Additionally, the
President imparted three messages to graduates about to start their new lives. The
first message was
“
become
responsible professionals full of patience.
”
She used
“
the law of 10,000 hours
”
as an example,
saying that one can succeed if one spends 3 hours everyday for 10 years.
Her second message
was
“
get an accurate
sense of your own capability, status, and role.
”
She
added,
“
Don
’
t let others
’
criticisms and evaluations break you. Also, don
’
t be offended by little mistakes and failures. I hope you all
possess the true meaning of pride.
”
Her last message
was
“
do not forget about
justice which will allow you to achieve true meaning and value in the long race
of life.
”
This is the

spirit
’
that stands for Ewha. She asked
students to keep thinking deeply about justice, and to let it be the standard
for their behavior and judgments.
President Kim also
said that she hopes students pave new ways for social change by withstanding
social stereotypes. She did not forget to add that Ewha will be always on their
side to offer encouragement.
On the graduation day,
there were several students who were publically spotlighted. Top graduate Min
Su Jo (economics
‧
10),
the youngest graduate Jung Min Park (environmental engineering
‧
10), graduates who
overcame their handicap Hye Jin Lee (food science and engineering
‧
08) and So Jung Kim (fiber
arts
‧
08), and 10
foreign students from Russia, China, Japan, U.S., Canada were all spotlighted
during the ceremony.
