SUJI LEE Assistant Professor
Dr. Suji Lee received her B.S. in Pharmacy and Ph.D. in Brain and Cognitive Sciences, both from Ewha Womans University. Following her Ph.D., she conducted a postdoctoral fellowship at the Ewha Brain Institute. She subsequently served as an Assistant Professor at Dongduk Women's University and Seoul Women's University before joining the faculty at Ewha Womans University. Her research program focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying cognition, sleep, and stress responses. Her work draws on a multimodal methodology encompassing structural, functional, metabolic, and network neuroimaging (sMRI, fMRI, DTI, arterial spin labeling, and MRA), EEG, and Computerized Neurocognitive Testing — complemented by non-invasive neuromodulation techniques, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Direct Current Stimulation (DCS). One focus of her recent work is the neuroscience of sleep. Using magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), she has examined how glutamate and GABA — the brain's principal excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters — vary across normal sleep, insomnia, and sleep restoration, findings that received international media coverage. Her research also explores how the brain changes along the continuum from normative stress through posttraumatic syndrome(PTS) to PTSD, leveraging machine learning and deep learning to analyze large-scale datasets. Dr. Lee has published more than twenty-five articles in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy, Biological Psychiatry, Molecular Psychiatry, Psychological Medicine, and Sleep, and holds three patents arising from her work. She serves as Principal Investigator on grants funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), and as a co-investigator on a number of collaborative projects.
