Seong-Man Choi Professor Emeritus

Seong Man Choi received his Ph. D. from the Department of German Philology at the Free University Berlin with a thesis on Walter Benjamin’s Theory of Mimesis. He joined the Department of German Language & Literature in 1995. Besides a lot of translations of German Texts on aesthetics into Korean such as The Sociology of Arts by Arnold Hauser, The Music World of Komponist Isang Yun, Walter Benjamin: The Story of a Friendship by Gershom Scholem, Theory of Avantgarde by Peter Buerger, Walter Benjamin’s Selected Writings (15 vols.), he has published a monograph on Benjamin: Walter Benjamin: Politics of Remenbrance and many essays on Benjamin, Adorno, deconstruction. His particular teaching and research interests mainly focus on modernity, contemporary aesthetics, literature and cultural discourses.
