Professor Lee graduated from Gyeonggi Science High School for the Gifted and Seoul National University College of Law(Summa Cum Laude). He then earned Master of Laws degree in Administrative Law and a Doctor of Juridical Science degree in Constitutional Law from Seoul National University Graduate School.

He served for three years as a military judge advocate in the Republic of Korea Army. After his discharge from the mandatory military service, he worked for 9 years as a judge at various courts, including the Seoul Administrative Court.

During his service as a judge, he took parental leaves twice and cared his children for 20 months in total.

Retired from ordinary courts, he held a position as a constitutional rapporteur judge at the Constitutional Court of Korea for 6 years.

From March 2023, he conducts research and lectures on constitutional law theory and constitutional adjudication practice at Ewha Womans University Graduate School of Law. He also engages in interdisciplinary research bridging constitutional law and natural sciences/engineering.
