Ewha Ranks 1st Among Korean Universities in Leiden Ranking for Two Consecutive Years

Ewha Womans University ranked 1st among Korean universities in the Leiden Ranking 2014, which evaluates the quality of internationally published papers of 750 universities around the world. Ewha maintained its top ranking in 2014, following the 2nd and 1st ranking in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Ewha also witnessed its global university ranking climb 15 positions from the previous year, becoming the only university among the top 10 ranked Korean universities whose global ranking rose this year.

In this year’s Leiden Ranking that evaluated academic papers published between 2009 and 2012, the share of Ewha’s papers out of the top 10 percent of frequently cited papers accounted for 10.1 percent, an increase of one percent from the previous year. According to evaluation by field, Ewha ranked 1st among Korean universities in the fields of Medical Sciences and Natural Sciences.

In 2011, Ewha launched the Ewha Global Top 5 Project, a research-centered initiative investing 10 billion won over a period of three years as a means to strengthen its research capacity and develop Ewha’s stronghold fields in research as well as grow Ewha into a global leading university. In addition, based on the university-industry collaboration agreement signed with the global chemical group Solvay, the Ewha-Solvay Global R&D Center located within the recently opened University-Industry Cooperation Building initiated a joint research project between Ewha faculty and Solvay researchers.
